No tigers or bears..just a lion and clowns today. I'm so happy with the collage sheet from Cassie's Creations on Etsy , of course I had to go vintage. These are by far the largest image transfers I've done onto polymer, Mr. Lion is almost 4" across. Kind of fun considering I'm usually focusing on small jewelery pieces.

Nothing is secured on the brick, this is definitely an experimental stage. I'm already thinking about color and it's not a strong point of mine so I'm a bit clueless.

Mr. Lion says oh no don't make me go in there!!!

Brick Auction an ASOM Adventure

I wanted to share what will be consuming a bit of my attention these next few weeks.

The event is called Bricks Along the Journey. Bricks are donated to artists, we get to do what we do and make them into pieces of art. In turn we donate the finished artwork back to the organization then the auction raises money for their cause. To read more about the story behind this event go here.

Our Altered States of Mind group decided to participate, each of us making our own piece. Today I picked up my brick and started the hunt for pieces I'll need.

I've had an idea in my head for a few weeks and have been unable to shake it.

Down the Rabbit Hole

Life is going on around me but I'm not much of a participant.

Do you ever feel that way?

I'm all caught up in what I have to do but very little is getting done otherwise.

Today I feel like I've had a taste of the magical potion that made Alice shrink. The world and the workload seem to be looming large. I want to stick my head in the sand to see what I can get away with not doing, but it appears that may not be the best game plan.

It will pass, it always does, there is a promise of a lightened load coming in the next week or so. Plus, I have a fun new project I'm looking forward to sharing with you as soon as I get all the parts together.

For now I'm trying to visualize it, trying to bring it into being.

A day to play

It has been a really busy week, the kids started swim lessons which for us means spending entire days at the pool but I don't think I'm allowed to complain about that.

I'll have to work tonight, tomorrow and most of next week so I was pleasantly surprised when today my plans changed and we found ourselves at home the whole day. I slithered off to the studio and other than a few small interruptions (they require feeding) I was able to start and finish this fun piece.

I hope everyone else was able to carve out a bit of time for themselves as well.

A day at the art museum

The Cincinnati Art Museum has the most amazing children's hands-on art room. The theme changes monthly so we try to go at least that often to see what they're up to. Usually the kids theme will follow the main art exhibit. At this time they are hosting "See America" which includes photography, prints and painting of Americana landscape and cultural icons.

For the kids there were several activities set up - photos with a Polaroid camera, looking though the viewfinder at a large mural of downtown Cincinnati, and light sensitive photo paper experiment.

The work tables were open for collage. They had multiple photocopies of artwork housed within the museum to cut up with scissors, add glue, markers and your creativity.

These are our finished projects from the day:

This one's mine titled "It's hard to live in Kansas". Please note the addition by my dear hubby..hint... they are up in the sky.

Here's Ms. Maria's work called "The Giant's Boot" . She spent far more time writing the story to accompany the artwork. It involved how to enter the house through the shell, sliding down the roof into the chimney finally being deposited by the door. The giant is simply at the house to to defend you from the Giant Spaghetti Monster.

And then there is Mr Robert, a typical boy who loves a good chase scene with daggers and swords (this is typical...right???) He called his "Chicken vs the unicorns in a battle for energy cells". Perhaps we need to cut back on the video games a bit???

So there was my day, it was a nice diversion for tomorrow includes morning swim lessons then hopefully back the studio to play.

Easily led astray

...that might be the best way to describe my love of learning new techniques. This one though has me quite captivated. It isn't stamped or transferred images but rather an engraved technique. Each impression seems comes out a bit different.

Every night for a week I've found myself back in the studio to make more...
and more...
and more. On this day I thought hmmm, can I engrave text???
As of last night I'm still at it... "soar" at the bottom is my favorite of the evening.
Now for what to do with them all? If I let myself to get so hung up on trying to make these into completed necklaces and such they would never get to Etsy. I have decided to add simple jump rings and sell them as pendants. One of these though will be offered up in my first giveaway. Come back tomorrow to see which one it will be.

Summer break is officially here, the kids are out of school and it's time to think about what I want to accomplish this summer.

Number one on the list...teach the kiddos to ride their bikes. I'm so embarrassed to admit I have a nine year old that still can't ride a bike.

The training wheels came off last summer but we couldn't get them off on their own. We were frustrated, they were frustrated too. This summer I'm determined to find the right trick or do I need the right incentive???
