Holiday Fun

My sister-in-law Jen & nephew Michael have been in town since Thanksgiving. Jen, Carl, and Michael moved to Idaho this past year with the Air Force so it always a treat when she can come home for a visit. I was surprised to learn Jen had never been to the Cincinnati Museum Center, a 1930's train depot that was given new life in 1990 as the home to 3 local museums.
(by the way this picture is stock, not from today...because today it was cloudy, rainy and the temps dropped from 50 to 20.. that's crazy)

Every Christmas at the museum center they open Holiday Junction, an interactive train exhibit. The kids had a ball, Michael was enthralled with the train displays and the Thomas train table. My kids kept busy with a seek and find list...imagine trying to find "a pig on a roof" in a huge train display.
Maria & Robert thought Michael was a hoot, they would make funny faces and he would laugh so that became this evenings entertainment.

Tonight I spent my time preparing for a morning class at Creative Stamper. First I am meeting a dear friend for breakfast, I wanted to make her something special for Christmas. Knowing she wears a lot of black and white clothing I spent the last few months scavenging the bead shop for black & white furnace glass. I finally had enough to put this together.
I'm up late once again, tis the season...

Packages are ready to ship

Last Friday I went to the kid's classrooms and enlisted the 2nd & 3rd graders in a project to make gift tags for our treat bundles. These are headed to 'Uncle' Carl's unit based in South Korea over the holidays. The 3rd graders even made cards for the airmen, I read a few and they were so sweet with comments like" thank you for protecting us" & "please come home safe to your family"
Here are two boxes filled and ready to go.

These two little helpers worked hard tonight bagging up candy and treats.
Here's the gang (minus me..hey someone had to take the picture) L-R Donna, Kathy, my mom...a.k.a grandma... and Mary Pat. These ladies get together at my mom's most Monday nights to work on sewing projects. When I mentioned last week that I would like to send a few small gifts to share with Carl's unit they jumped in with both feet to make it work. Thank you ladies for donating your knowledge, materials, and your time!

A trip to the post office tomorrow and these packages will be on their way.

Reminiscing

Photo from Flickr
Maria was invited to a birthday party at a the local roller rink this afternoon, wow did that bring back memories. Although I can still skate I decided to pass on it today... no sense in getting hurt 3 weeks before Christmas...right? Plus with Maria being fairly new to skating I wanted to be flat on my feet to help out. We got her skates tied on and off she went-a-walking. I kept trying to emphasise the correct motion, but alas she needed to learn on her own. I find times like this frustrating, I know how to do it but I can't teach it to her all I can do is let her be. Two hours later she was so pleased with herself, she was getting around the rink pretty quickly and the skating motions were starting to come along.

It was so fun reminiscing with the other parents about all the Friday nights we would spend at the roller rinks, it feels like a whole lifetime ago.

New Pieces & Shop Bellevue

I remembered to get batteries for my camera today so I have pictures to share:)

I made some dog tag shaped pendants, they are two sided with vintage Santa pictures on one side and stamped images on the back. After I took this picture I added 12mm jump rings through the holes, all they need is a ball chain and they are ready to wear.

Some additional beads I made to sell.
It was a good night at Shop Bellevue, the crowds would come and go. With 30 degree temps outside I'm sure it kept many people away, I did sell a few pieces and took a few orders for custom photo tiles.
Now back to work...

Burning the midnight oil

Alphonse Mucha illustration- please feel free to use this image.

A very busy couple of days have past and a couple more are still ahead. I have been up late every night this week and I'm feeling the effects, so I'm going to do my best to be in bed and asleep by 11:00.

Tomorrow night is Shop Bellevue, a first Friday event in the city's business district. The theme this month is Christmas so I'd better be there with bells on.
I need to finish up a few more Christmas pieces to take down and a few more samples of my photo jewelry. While I'm sure I will be talking business for some of the evening there will also be a lot of socializing with friends.

I want to try this!

I'm back, not sure what I did to my blog earlier but it's fixed.

During my down time I surfed... if I had a nickel for all the times I lose myself to surfing the web... I'd have enough nickels to retire.

So off to Craftig I went and found a tutorial posted back in October on how to transfer images to wood. I'm so curious to know if it works! You mean I can transfer onto to wood using an injet printer...oh the things I can try!

You can read it here on matsutake's blog.
